While this study exposes that AI could be able to recognize certain body movements, such as raised arms or a clenched fist, the deeper emotional context of the display is often missed.
In fact, there are AI systems with body language tracking-from virtual reality environments to interactive AI applications. These systems, however, rely on special hardware components, like motion sensors, or deep learning models fitted for real-time video analysis; pure text-based chat systems are far from it. In one virtual environment pilot project conducted by one AI firm in 2021, it was possible to disclose users' emotional states by a virtual assistant according to their body language. It wasn't until input could be received from cameras or sensors specifically designed to track and interpret human movement, however, that these systems succeeded.
According to the limitations of AI in reading body language, the famous AI expert Dr. Ethan Rhodes has explained that though AI has been remarkably successful in analyzing visual data, interpreting human emotions through physical gestures and body movement is still in its infancy. In fact, he believes that real-time body language recognition in chat environments will likely remain limited until AI can develop a deeper understanding of the nuances of human physicality.
NSFW AI chat systems would thus focus on recognizing explicit content based on the analysis of text and visual data, while body language recognition keeps being a field that is still at its emergence with significant challenges. These systems do well in filtering explicit language and images where patterns are more straightforward, but they cannot presently analyze physical behaviors such as body movements or gestures. But with future advancements in AI and multimodal integration, it could even reach a point where these are features that could be developed-opening up new possibilities for AI with respect to interacting with human behavior across the board.
